In the course of the Summit, the group will spend three days absorbing each and every aspect of Cognac, and participating in several workshops :
Developing the 21st Century’s Cognac wheel of aromas with Jean LENOIR, world-famous creator of Le Nez du Vin, and chemist Hubert RICHARD. Particularly, the aromatic proximity between wine and Cognac will be explored.
Identifying the best glass in which to enjoy the world’s finest eau de vie.
Tasting 100 of the finest and rare Cognacs
Over the course of their visit, the group of sommeliers and journalists will taste 100 of the very finest and rare Cognacs, a fitting way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1909 Decree that established the Cognac area of production, the foundation of the Cognac AOC.
Commenting on the initiative, Jérôme DURAND, Director of Marketing and Communications at the BNIC said, “The first Summit held in January 2008, brought together 30 of the world’s top mixologists.
In January 2009, Cognac will be honoured to host to some of the best noses and palates on the planet in our second Summit that will look at Cognac’s place at the table. Consumer tastes are changing, and with the explosion in dining out and fine dining all over the world, it’s time to think again about how Cognac can be enjoyed in all kinds of different ways by today’s restaurant goers.”
The BNIC
The Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac oversees all matters pertaining to the Cognac Controlled Appellation of Origin (AOC). The Cognac region of production was legally established in 1909 as a result of the joint efforts of the local wine-growers and shippers. It was followed by the establishment of the Bureau National.
Today, its mission is to develop and promote Cognac all over the world and to represent the interests of the professionals involved in the Cognac production and trade: wine-growers, shippers and all those whose activities are tied to the production of Cognac such as barrel makers, nurseries, brokers, etc.
With a staff of about 100 people, the BNIC is involved in activities including scientific research, economics, marketing, communication, legal assistance, defense of the appellation, quality and inventory control, etc. BNIC works closely with the French and EU administrations, international organizations, scientific institutions, and national and international media, in order to accomplish its mission. Aside from the US, the BNIC has offices in Germany, France and the UK.
